Writer, IDS Senior Project

My major in college was Ancient Languages at first, but I changed it to Interdisciplinary Studies after attending a very compelling info meeting hosted by Dr. Jeffry Davis, the head and only faculty member of the IDS program at Wheaton College.

The major is different for each student. In order to get into the program, you write a short proposal describing a problem that can only be meaningfully addressed using an integration of more than one academic discipline. My two were Ancient Languages and Theater. My senior project was going to center around retelling the story of Homer’s Odyssey. I believed I could workshop a performance that imitated some of the formal characteristics of the original poem. I had it all cast and everything.

The performance was cancelled, as you could perhaps infer from the project date, but I did write a long paper about the ideas involved when I was in lock-down. I’d love to tell you more about it or send you the paper if you’re interested.
