Director, Constellations by Nick Payne

I was very honored to be asked by Caspar Carter and Lilia Smith to help direct a play they wanted to work on. I came to their minds because I had just facilitated the Poetry Project and we had wished we could work with each other more.

The play is about the way we can find our way through our personal troubles and make sense of our lives in light of sweeping cosmic considerations like the nature of time and the multiverse. We performed it in the basement of the Greater Chicago Church of Oak Park because there was a naturally occurring sort of kitchenette-carpet situation. We lit it with a bunch of lamps on faders which I operated with a couple cell phones. It was the dream directorial debut for me. I am very grateful for the chance to work on it and really happy with how it turned out.
